So I have wanted a 3rd Strike cabinet for a while now, but finding one for sale is a nightmare. I think my best bet is to just build my own.The issue is I have never tackled such a project so not sure where to start other than the PCB. I like the big blue cabs and figure one of those would be a good start, but can I just get one of those and the PCB and boom, good to go or does the 3rd strike PCB require anything special that I need to get?Any info or links would be useful, as I am awful at the google-fu. Building your own cab is a waste of time, money, and effort unless you live in the middle of nowhere. Since there's no real 'dedicated' cabinet, you can put it in anything. There are plenty of earlier Street Fighter cabs around, as well as generic cabs that work with 6 button setups. If you can find a ready to go 3s board, that's the easier way to go.

There's a way to convert non-3S carts/boards to run 3s (as well as other games) using some hackery if you can't find one. It would likely be much cheaper that way. I've never done it myself, but you can start here for some info:.As far as if you find a 3s PCB and don't know what to do with it - you need the cab to be wired for JAMMA (which any Big Blue etc. Will be, as well as basically any cab after 1987 or so) and a CPS2/3 kick harness to wire the 3 kick buttons into the PCB. After that you're done.A JAMMA harness looks something like this, for reference: and this is the kick harness:.

I commend you my friend on wanting to get this cab. I have a third strike set up that I'm very proud of and can help you with most of your questions. The first place you want to start is getting a cps3 unit with enough ram to run a 3rd strike set up. Typically this all sold together and not priced out very often.

The people who have these set ups know what it's worth and will bundle it as a kit. The board set up along goes for $300 to $500 with the cd rom drive etc. Second you want to find a jamma cabinet that has a sux button control scheme to support this game.it doesn't have to be a big blue.but my goal is to actually get a big blue so if you find one that's perfect. Excellent:)I want 3rd Strike because we used to have one in the employee lounge at the University I used to teach at. Don't care for street fighter in general, but I enjoyed that title.I have a SF2 Champion in a big blue currently at a friends arcade and love that cab, so I'll probably keep an eye out for one of those. As for the CPS3 unit that will apparently be my first purchase. You mention 'this is all sold together', what does that mean?

The CPS3 and the 3rd Strike PCB? Or are there multiple parts to the CPS3? I'll have to research the CPS3 system to learn more I guess, but I'm at work currently lol. CPS3 consists on a main board and ram. What the actual game runs from is a cartridge and a cd rom specific to each game. The kit from coin op express is exactly what you would need. You might ask yourself why do I keep seeing street fight 3 new generation so much cheaper?

The answer is the amount of ram sticks you need. 3S requires I think the most therefore it's always sold as a kit. Beware cps3 does have a suicide battery in the cartridges. I luckily have the dark soft mod done to mine so I never have to worry with universal bios cartridge. By the way where is your friends arcade?. If that's accurate, that would contain everything you need for the game itself. Then you need the cabinet and the JAMMA harness hooked up in it.

CPS3 also uses amplified sound with stereo RCA output, so you will need a QSound audio amp too.Bear in mind that CPS3 is an old system with parts that may not be entirely reliable these days. The CD-ROM drive will be a good 15 years old at this point, and the battery in the security carts will need changing if they haven't already. 3S requires the most amount of RAM of all the CPS3 games, so if it doesn't come with enough, you'll need to source the correct sticks from somewhere.More info:.
