From what I've heard about why people prefer 2 vs. 4 player comes down to your thoughts on luck, strategy, and the pressure of disappearing options. Like others have said, the market changes more dramatically between your turns in a 4 player game.
That puts the pressure on to make the best choice while you still have it, and makes it more difficult to plan multiple turns ahead as the options change so quickly. I think your experience will depend on which sounds more appealing to you.
