You'll want to bind one of your gamepad buttons to SPACE.
Rapid fire is enabled by default.
Destroy certain enemy formations to release 'E' spheres.
Collect E spheres to highlight weapon icon on the top, then press SPACE to activate that weapon. (Gradius/Nemesis upgrade system)
This game is super hard. Interestingly, the icon will stay lit when you die. Player re-spawns in-place (no checkpoint respawn) and you get several continues.
